Welcome
The Dance Centre offers a comprehensive dance program for dancers from pre-school children to professional adults. Classes include beginning, advanced beginning, intermediate and advanced levels in classical ballet, pointe, tap, jazz and modern. We also have a specialized pre-dance program for boys and girls ages 3-5 years. Special classes, such as Children's Theatre, Pilates, Ballroom Dancing and Creative Dance for Mommy & Me, are also available.
Our aim is to give our students a knowledge and appreciation of the art of dance, turning out dancers who are well-rounded in all areas. Classes are creative and innovative, emphasizing correct body placement, strength of movement and performance skills.
Each student is considered on an individual basis, with placement decided at the director's discretion.
Student Involvement
Students have an active role, sharing ideas in the studio and participating in choreography, rehearsal and production. Each May, the students take part in a dance recital. The Dance Centre also presents The Night Before Christmas and other special productions. During the year, which runs from September through May, students also have opportunities to perform in the community and to participate in master classes and workshops taught by guest teachers. We seek to establish a strong rapport between student and teacher and to maintain a high level of enthusiasm and interest throughout a student's years of dance. (Younger students are motivated by the encouragement of older students.) This is accomplished by establishing goals and involving students in many activities relating to dance, including participation in ALLEGRO Dance Company and Apprentice Corps for the serious student.
Facilities
Located in historic downtown Rome at 210 East Second Avenue, The Dance Centre is close to cultural, shopping and business districts and occupies over 2500 square feet of beautiful dance space, including two studios with raised hardwood floors, a large dressing room and comfortable reception area. Backstage Boutique, a specialty gift shop for children, shares our space and offers a wonderful selection of dance items, books and other gifts of imagination.
